The New Food Pyramid Can Make You Fat

Have you see the new food pyramid? The United States Department of Agriculture came up with this one in 2005 to replace the previous pyramid, which was created at Tufts Medical School. It has been given the moniker “MyPyramid” as some changes were made to it, supposedly to make it more user friendly.

A lot of research and study went into the development of the new food pyramid. People of all sizes should be quick to adopt the recommendations of this new way of eating.  There are some people who always resist change, however. They will more than likely decide to stick with the guidelines of the old food pyramid, vague though they are. This is not necessarily a bad thing if the advice to avoid sugar and excess fat is followed.

However, for those who have a weight problem, the new food guide pyramid can actually work against them. The food pyramid was not intended to be used as a guide for weight loss. It was created for the population of America as a visual guide to a healthy way of eating. Many people are confused about what the food pyramid was meant to be, and try gamely to follow the guidelines set forth in it, hoping for quick weight loss.

These guidelines can be tailored to fit an individual with the new food pyramid. When you type in your age, height, weight, and the amount of exercise you get, a daily food plan is customized for you. You're told the number of servings you should consume each day from each of the five food groups.

To be blunt, the USDA food guide pyramid is very carbohydrate heavy. This suggested overabundance of carbs us causing quite a few Americans to gain weight instead of losing  it. Six to eleven servings of bread and pasta on a daily basis, two to four servings of fruit daily, seven to nine daily servings of vegetables, three cups of milk, two to three ounces of meat or dried beans, and three to five teaspoons of oil is an awful lot of food to eat in one day! No wonder people are gaining weight when they follow these guidelines!

Research has discovered that the high amount of carbohydrates recommended by the U.S. Government has brought about an increase in cases of Diabetes 2 among the general public. The amount of meat and fat has also been questioned as the cause of high cholesterol and heart disease. Of course, everyone doesn't follow the food pyramid. Some people's eating habits are far better than this – and some are far worse.

Instead of taking your chances on increasing your weight by following the USDA food pyramid, consider a way of eating that is much better for you, both mentally and physically. Calorie shifting can become your new best friend, and can help you to either lose all the weight you want to, or maintain your weight. Basically, you never eat the same foods or amounts of foods on a daily basis. Instead, you shift these factors around.  Your body will never even know you are on a diet, and your metabolism will stay revved up and ready to burn off fat.

You won't get bored with your food when you practice calorie shifting, as you will be eating different foods every day in rotation. There is a place online that will create menus for used based upon the calorie shift way of eating, so if you are not the best at planning your meals, help is available. Forget the new food pyramid, and forget being overweight! Calorie shifting is all you need to succeed.
