Are you being lured into the “buy an ab machine” spell during your late night television watching? It's happened to all of us at one time or another. Those infomercials that come on late at night, hawking everything from indoor grilling systems to “make a million dollars selling real estate” workbook and audio tape packages. Then, there are all the exercise machine commercials. The ones that really stand out in my mind are the ones for the different varieties of Ab machines, exercise devices that are designed to target your body's abdominal section.
These commercials are just loaded down with the type of promotion that borders on fantasy. In fact, just watching several of the commercials on YouTube will convince you that these commercials really are hype. To hear the host of the commercial tell it, an ab machine will solve the problem of a flabby, fat stomach permanently. Supposedly, all you have to do is use the machine about ten minutes a day to get miraculous results.
Notice the people who are demonstrating these machines. Most of them are models or television personalities, and the ab machine did not give them their fabulous bodies. Their abs were in good shape way before they filmed these commercials!
Only recently, these commercials also began to mention that you should follow a healthy eating plan along with using the ab machine. They never mentioned anything about food or eating before this change. You have to wonder what prompted those who are producing the commercials to add this bit of nutritional information. Was it perhaps an irate customer, complaining that he or she had followed the instructions to the letter, and had not lost even a inch from their abdomen? The public will probably never know, for these companies are not talking! They just want to sell as many of the ab machines as possible.
Do ab machines decrease your waistline? No, not any more so than any other type of exercise. There is no magic in an ab machine! You will get much the same results by doing some floor exercises or walking around the block daily. These machines definitely do not work as advertised. You should think about it this way – if it were as easy to lose weight and tone up your body as the commercials for ab machines make it seem, everyone who was even a little bit overweight would jump on these machines like a dog on a bone!
These companies will do almost anything to get you to purchase one of their ab machines. They cajole you into taking advantage of their “special offer” where you can try it out for thirty days without paying anything down on the machine. Of course, you do have to give them your credit card number, and they are counting on you forgetting to call in and cancel the deal and pay to ship back the ab machine before the 30 day period is over.
In a nutshell, you can save your money. Don't be tempted by what you see and hear on television about these ab machines. The testimonials that they run that praise the machine always have a disclaimer. It is in tiny text that rushes by on the screen so quickly that no one can really read it, and it says “Results Not Typical”. So many poor unsuspecting souls think that they will end up with a shape like those who have supposedly used an ab machine on television. The truth is that an ab machine may build up you abdominal muscles if used over time, but it will not burn off fat. Layers of fat sitting atop muscles do not equal a slim waist!
